Healing Touch

Healing Touch is a complementary therapeutic approach based on the concept that human beings are infused with an energy field, or "chi".  Healing Touch practitioners work with this energy field to effect changes in the body and positively influence health.  The technique uses touch to influence the human energy system, specifically the energy field that surrounds the body, and the energy centers that control the energy flow from the energy field to the physical body. These non-invasive techniques utilize the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields thus affecting physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health and healing.   Healing Touch is based on a heart-centered caring relationship in which the practitioner and patient come together to facilitate health, restore harmony and balance and promote self-healing. Scientific research suggests that Healing Touch helps promote relaxation, reduces pain, promotes healing and helps decrease stress. People often describe an increased sense of well-being after treatment.  Healing Touch can used in preparation for surgery or as an adjunct to treat as headaches, chronic pain, depression, high blood pressure and fibromyalgia.

After talking with you for a few minutes, the Healing Touch practitioner will ask you to lie down fully-clothed on a massage table. The practitioner moves his or her hands in a gentle motion around the body. Light touch may also be used if you are comfortable with this.  You are welcome to ask questions or rest during the treatment. A session lasts 30 minutes to an hour.  Age Defy Dermatology and Wellness is proud to be community site for the Healing Partners Program, a Stanford’s Women’s Health community-service program pairing women diagnosed with breast cancer with Healing Touch volunteers who provide ongoing sessions for 3-6 months.
